Deepa Shlokam

Subham Karoti Kalyanam
Arogyam Dhana Sampadah
Shatru Buddhi Vinashaya
Dipa Jyotir Namostute


Sanskrit to English Word Meaning -
Subham- Promising Success; karoti – which brings; kalyanam- Success; arogyam- good health; dhanasampadah- abundance of wealth; satrubuddhi- intellect’s enemy (ignorance); vinasaya- destroying; dipajyotir- glowing lamplight; namosthuthe- I salute thee.

Translation -
I bow and worship the lamplight which brings auspiciousness,good health,prosperity and wealth.It destroys all the intellects enemy.

Brief explanation -
This prayer is chanted before lighting a lamplight.Light brings us out of darkness to see things clearly.It is the symbol of prosperity success and abundance in many cultures .It destroys the darkness of enemy and brings light in one's life.

Meaning -
I bow and worship my lord who is the creator of all the beings and who is in the form of light that destroys the darkness and brings light to a persons life.
